I have to say that I love skirts even though i normally wear jeans/pants. I like to wear skirts/dresses when i dress up for formal occasions, when i go dancing (ballroom), and sometimes when i go to church. I love the feel of the skirt swishing around my calves, nothing shorter than my knees- it's just too awkward after that. I do think it's possible to dress femininely while wearing jeans, girls jeans don't tend to be baggy like guys jeans, and as long as it's not too incredibly tight, i think it's okay. (Tops are another story, but we've been covering that too already) I hope i didn't offend anyone here, it wasn't my intention.

Locke, i went onto that website you mentioned and I was really fascinated by it. Thank you for posting it up. It's really interesting to know that there are different words for 'man' in Hebrew. In general, it helped me a lot. I highly recommend that website to anyone who's interested in what the Bible has to say about the clothing we wear today.

Concerning the whole different pants/guys and girls clothing thing...

I just want to point out that all too often we as Christians accept the ways of the world without testing them with the Scriptures. We (I'm referring to myself also) tend to forget that the world really does have the messed-up viewpoint - we have the Word of God, and are to live according to it out of love for God. My point in all of this is the following: Just because the world throws out tight pants/jeans as totally okay and stylish, doesn't mean we should be wearing them.

After reading FYWO and Every Young Man's Battle, I realized that the pants I wore were NOT modest - they were too tight! So I just want to challenge everyone to examine their own hearts and closets - you might find that what you thought was modest, really isn't. I was pretty ticked as I was ridding my closet of tight bottoms (what would I WEAR?), but I did it out of love. I hope all you girls out there can do the same if God convicts you of it.

Oh, and I'm not saying that y'all do wear tight bottoms... I'm just challenging you to check out what you're wearing if you haven't already. Tight bottoms can have just as much of an effect on guys as tight shirts, according to what I've read (guys if I'm wrong... feel free to correct me!)

Blessings! :D

You're not wrong, they can, and do.

Doesn't mean there aren't decent jeans out there, but if you feel God doesn't want you to wear jeans, then don't. Girls don't have to wear jeans to be beautiful. :)

It is trifles that make the sum of life.

LOL yes, I don't like it when we, girls or guys, feel like we have to wear what's in... I don't always, but I never look yuck with what i wear... Like i wear flares sometimes, and they are totally out of fashion, but they look cool, and I agree, I don't tend to like skinny jeans, i own 1 pair, but I hardly ever wear them, and i mostly wear them when I want to wear boots :P
but yes. I do, however, like the new fashion trend of tops that come down over your hips, way more flattering than midrif tops... ICK! I see someone's stomach, and I want to spew (Especially cuz in NZ, all the girls that wear them aren't exactly skinny, and it's all "Muffin top" and really looks gross!!) I'm skinny, but, I don't exactly want to show my body off to people. lol
Ew and low necked tope are ick... I wathced dancing with the stars, and one chick (who probably thought it was cool) had a low necked outfit on, and it was hideous!! lol

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

Yea I think fashions come and go but sometimes its really great cuz the fashion acutally helps in modesty! Such as burmudas or long shirts....

Jojo i really have to agree with you on the fashion trend of tops coming down to your hips. I love them and i don't have to worry about my top riding up on me when i walk or bend down or anything. The fashion trends do come and go and what's in now was what was in in the 70's or 80's (or something like that). It makes me wonder what the next fashion trend will be, cause it's like we recycle fashion trends. I am not one to follow the latest trend to a tee, but just enough to feel comfortable and modest about it. My friend and I raided my closet and went through all my clothes while following the website: therebelution.com and following the modesty survey. We had fun! :)

One of my brilliant and inspired friends told me (in a discussion I got going on fb awhile back) that motivation for what you're wearing is what matters most. Here is an edited version of his rather verbose answer:
"1. I think it is a bit of a personal decision for you. If you feel comfortable in it great, if it's making you feel nervous for ANY reason, don't wear it, even if you're trying to "get used to it".
3. ... Its how they PRESENT themselves in what their wearing to a point. Heck, I've seen girls in full sweatshirts that looked like they were trying to grab more attention than the girl sitting next to them in a spagetti strap. So to an extent its the attitude.
So to sum up I would say its more of a personal choice as long as it is honoring to God and isn't going to cause your Christian brothers to fall.... its your personal choice."
Then another guy said that attitude doesn't matter at all, the style is either modest or immodest.

In respone to your post, Adelynn, I would say that there is definitely truth to both (in my humble opinion).

Modesty isn't just about covering up your body - it's about being modest in your behaviour, too. Here's a definition from www.dictionary.com:

mod⋅est/ˈmɒdɪst/ –adjective
"having or showing regard for the decencies of behavior, speech, dress, etc.; decent"

You can wear modest clothes, but behave or speak in immodest ways. God wants us to be modest in every way! :)

I totally agree with you Cayla Renae. We should not only be modest in what we wear, but also in how we act, and for that matter, in every way.

Totally agree. Modesty isn't just what your wearing, its how you present yourself. You can wear a bag and still be falling over boys and flirting like a ...... yea..... seriously! Modesty is a heart attitude, not just what you wear.

I notice eyes and hair. Always. First thing.
My dad says that non-christian guys tend to be astonished by modest girls and it makes them like them even more...

My sister who is the wife of our youth group leader has this wonderful rule of thumb and I love it!

"A woman's clothing should be tight enough to show she's a woman, and loose enough to show she's a lady."~ Jackie

I love that. She's amazing and one of my best friends.

OH! Yeah...God Bless! =D
