Hey everyone! I looked around for the thread about swimsuit modesty from last year, but couldn't find it, so here's a new one.

It's getting harder and harder to find a suit that's cute AND modest, isn't it? Here's what I did:

Haha really you couldn't find it? :P I wonder where it went then. I saw this thread, and I thought: "Wow this topic is old! I guess you wanted to revive it" ^_^ Haha I guess you did revive it in some way, but I was obviously thinking of the much older thread. :P
*ahem. Anyways, sorry for the tangent. :P Since you couldn't find the other thread, here's my opinion on the topic of swimsuit modesty: I agree that it is very hard to find swimsuits that are modest nowadays for girls. I usually wear a one-piece, but I recently bought a two-piece that I wear with a tank top over it whenever I use it. Some other people wear a T-shirt over it, or a rash guard. :) With girls swimsuits either way, even a one-piece is pretty figure revealing. Almost like a body glove; I personally think a one-piece is more modest than a two-piece, but there are some guys out there who don't mind a girl wearing a two-piece. :P
Anyone else care to add?

Well, the pics certainly didn't work! lol! What I did is I got some shorts a few years ago from Old Navy that go about six inches above my knee, and a sports bra to go under a tankini. My old tankini is too short now, but my new one is spaghetti straps with a v-neck, and I wear the sports bra under it too. My (girl) friend and my mom thought it was really cute! Before buying a low-cut top, I asked my almost-brother if he thought that would be ok, and he said it was a really good idea! I think one pieces are modest only if there's shorts or a skirt-thingy on top. :)

I read through the old discussion on this topic, It seemed that no-one posted on it once the American summer was over, but now the American summer is back, so is the thread, lol.

When I read the old one I wanted to comment but no-one had posted on it for months and I thought it would be a bit weird for a guy to revive it,

but all I wanted to say was that modesty depends on what everyone else wears, the bible says not to have braided hair, but today I don't find it leads my mind astray, I don't know about other guys, maybe it does.

If your somewhere where it's appropriate to go topless,(in the previous thread on modesty someone said german woman swim topless), or even nude, you may as well, but the reverse is also true, if you're somewhere where it's inappropriate to show your hair or ankles, don't show them.

As men our minds are in our control, we are always going to seek out the most fertile woman in a group, unless we make an effort not to, I'm sure men from other cultures have their minds in the wrong place when they see your hair and ankles, let alone your knees, all women can do is conform to the standards set for them by their surroundings,

And you don't have to dress in shapely clothing to be beautiful, I personally think some of the women who wear head scarves and unrevealing clothing (sounds better than 'sacks') are very attractive, all the attention is brought to their faces. and they use lots of colour.

Q, what you just said about women wearing head scarves and unrevealing clothing reminds me of what David (from previous threads) said once about girls and figures: even if we wear baggy sweatshirts and baggy sweatpants (or the unshapely clothing equivalents), we still couldn't hide our figures. We'd have to be wearing paper sacs or something. It was in the discussion about modesty.
Anyways I personally prefer modesty, and I probably would never have the guts to go to a topless beach, but the definition of modesty does vary from culture to culture. For example, if I went to a Muslim country dressed in jeans and a modest T-shirt- ookay that would just be insulting I would imagine. I'd have to don on the proper women's attire for that country.
I think if we want to conform to the standards of modesty in any culture or time change, we have to figure out what that standard is, and then stick to it.

Umm... Q.??? The Bible says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind"... just because it's acceptable to go topless over there doesn't mean you should. You should only adapt if doing so DOESN'T mean lowering your own standards, like in Nicole's example of going to the Middle East.

Just to elaborate a bit on what I said about conforming to the standards of modesty: I realized later that the standards of modesty have gone down the drain a little considering what the standards of modesty were in the Biblical times and the earlier centuries compared to what the modesty standards are now. So to elaborate my point, I think it's good to also listen to what the Bible says about modesty, find out modesty standards, and go from there. If the modesty standard is going to consist of a low cut tank top and low rise jeans..... well I think I'll wear something over that tank top or find something that's not so low rise :P Hey, what would Jesus say about the way you dress? :)

People have their own style of dressing- a good thing I would say :)

firstly, biblical standards of modesty = 1 Timothy 2:9, no elaborate hairstyles (I guess this would include anything other than a pony tail, hair just natural, or wrapped in a scarf), no gold (This would be an interesting verse to bring up in the engagement ring topic), or pearls, or expensive clothes (define expesive?? for a chinese factory worker $10 would be expensive),

In 1 Corinthians 11 it says that if a woman prays with her head uncovered it's time to get out the clippers, it also says that I can't wear hats or have long hair, thats why I take these things as a cultural guidline, not a literal rule, (later on Paul does say "judge for your selves" but you
can see what he's implying)

As for what Jesus would have to say on what you wore, I don't have a verse but he did happen to hang out with tax collectors and PROSTITUTES, seriously girls, Mary Magdalen (sp?) would probably taken a while to get the same idea of modesty as the rest of the disciples.

@Darcy, I understand what you're saying, but I personally think that verse is talking about your mind being conformed, there are some things that are very cultural, like modesty, speech, authority, and respect, with many other things as well, feel free to disagree with me (I know you already did). But if you dont feel comfortable topless, or on a nude beach, then don't go topless or nude, it must be right in your own consience first.

@Q, ummm you spelled Darcie's name wrong. :) OHH ish nude beaches!!??!?!? i heard about them, but i dint really think they were real! haha but i must say Q, you do have a point and I agree with what you say... on some subjects. haha just thought i'd put that out there. :P

I only wear "low rise" jeans. they are more confortable for me. but i do wear long layering tanks under everything, also i have to wear belts with all my jeans cuz i cant find small waisted jeans that stay up, cuz im just stick straight. lol

i want to get a sporty bikini and then wear a tank and swim shorts over it. like a not so see-throughy tank top, maybe a dark colored ribbed tank top...
