Today we need to be carful what kind for music we are lisning to. even christan music. skillet, red, toby mac and other bands/songs I think have some songs that are a little to heavy for me. I'm not saying thier bad or anything, but am I lisning to the words or just the music? Go ahead and share any thing you whant.

haha ok, I actually am a big toby mac and skillet fan, which songs are you meaning??

I'm a person who wont listen to songs unless they have a point, and as far as I know, their stuff's pretty sound.

have you listened to underoath? now that's heavy :P

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

for example, one of their latest songs is called "dead inside" (like one of my favorite songs)
and the lyrics say:

To find this love of mine, I'd walk through wind and fire...
Forever and always
Hollowed hands reach out for You to touch me now...
Forever and always

Dead inside, My heart and soul flatline
Put your mouth on mine, and bring me back to life
Dead inside, No other satisfies
My blood runs dry, Take my life
Save me from this death inside

I can't escape this love, I want it the way it was
Forever and always
Dont you leave me here, alone in all this fear?
Forever and always

Dead inside, My heart and soul flatline
Put your mouth on mine, and bring me back to life
Dead inside, No other satisfies
My blood runs dry, Take my life
Save me from this death inside

I can't escape this love
I want it the way it was
You remind me of a time
when I felt alive

Dead inside, My heart and soul flatline
Put your mouth on mine, and bring me back to life
Dead inside, No other satisfies
My blood runs dry, Take my life
Save me from this death inside

and I know some people think it's about death, but it's not... it's about Jesus breathing life into us :D

haha we're actually using it as a dance item soon. cuz it's got a great story :D

i guess it's heavy in the context that the songs tackle big topics??
they're intense...

I kinda agree with Steadfast, not that heavy rock songs are wrong, but its not really our taste. But my one friend loves skillet. I'm more in the line of Jesus Culture and Tenth Ave. north. But as long as it has a good message I think its awesome!

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

tenth ave north and jesus culture are a completely different brand of music, you have Christian worship bands (ie songs you can sing in church) and Christian bands, which have christian songs which you dont sing in church, but they have a different angle to music... so basically, christian worship bands are a category in themselves, whereas, christian bands songs tend to tell stories, tend to make you think about certian things etc.

idk I'll explain it better later

Ok, I'm back. I checked out Underoath and do agree that it's pretty hard core sceaming music. lol! Toby Mac has a song named "showstopper" Skillet has a song "monster" Red, "Faceless" Tenth Ave. North, Casting crowns, Josh Wilson and some others are pretty good. And I'm not saying the others are bad but just to be careful WHY I'm lisning ti it. I called 104.1 the fish one time to reqest "Faceless", and they said they don't do any Red becuase it's too heavy. What radio stations do you guys(and girls) play most the time? I mostly do 104.1 the fish,102.7 air 1 and 104.5 way FM. there all pretty good I think. This is a wholenother subjet but what do you think of country music?

I listen to Life FM in NZ, and it plays everything, even christian death metal :D
My brother is the bassist in a christian death metal band (not that I actually listen to their music... Underoath is about as hardcore as i go...)

You do know monster is a song based on the nature of the flesh... how sometimes we think we're perfect, but really, inside all of us... we're pretty bad... I'm sure we all have those deep dark dirty secrets that are our monsters... i have one, which I'm not prepared to discuss cuz I'm just not at that point... but yeah... like the bridge says "It's hiding in the dark, it's teeth are razor sharp, there's no escape for me, it wants my soul it wants my heart... No one can hear me scream, maybe it's just a dream, but maybe it's inside of me... Stop this monster!"
can anyone tell me that doesn't sound like the grip sin has on us?

for skillet, I've heard John Cooper, the lead singer, talk about their songs and describe their meaning... I was at their interview at Parachute and they are pretty serious about singing songs that actually have lyrics with a meaning, they're not afraid to tell everyone they're christians and won't compromise... idk, it's better hearing it straight from him :P

(not saying you said they aren't christians, but normally b4 I start to say a christian band has non christian or un christian songs, I do alot of research... I've looked up underoath's stuff as well, cuz I had my suspicions about them too, and I like their old stuff... but after seeing them live at parachute, my respect for them dropped cuz they threw a diva fit and smashed the microphones cuz they had to cut the set and not do the really heavy stuff, after all, it is a family festival, and all the acts had to cut their sets... even Family force 5, who everyone loves)

ahem :P

as to showstopper... just going through the lyrics in my head...
yeah... I'm pretty sure the "showstopper" refers to Jesus...
"
So if you or your people ever wanna doubt
This showstoppin' party rockin'
Tell 'em all about this
Truth from the village of the diverse citizens
One stop one shot
Livin like a kid again
So turn off the lights
They've been waitin' all night
For the,

The showstopper
The jaw dropper
The big papa

We gonna get it, get it, What?
We gonna get it good.

It's automatic
Don't mind the static
I'm a fanatic
Jesus fanatic"

yep...

as to red, some of their stuff I've heard is cool. (i dont listen to them, mainly cuz I have my favorites, but if they were at Parachute, I'd be at the concert...)

oh and have you heard of Brian Head Welch? now he's a metal head... and I've heard him at parachute. pertty screamo etc, but his lyrics, once you get your head around them, are amazing!and when he explains them to you, you're like "wow, I get that!"

As to Family force 5 (just incase anyone wants to comment on them... they're my favorite, so If i seem defensive of skillet and toby mac, i'm way more ocd about ff5...)
FF5 are a christian "Party for Jesus" group, so all their songs are clean, but they're not all about Jesus, classic examples "Ghostride the whip" and "dang girl" and "wobble" and "you got it" etc are just fun party songs (and yes I can quote lyrics etc for them all... so i know what I'm on about, and I've watched their explanations etc as well...)
then you get songs like "Face Down" "Replace Me" "Dance Or Die" "Radiator" etc that are so obviously christian... and yes, "Wake The Dead" is also a christian song. it's about the rapture....

anyways...

those 3 you mentioned boarder (if not, are) worship band category...

sorry if I seem all OCD, but i get like that when something I support and have done my research on, gets put into question lol.

flip, you could put switchfoot in that category if skillet and tmac are in it, cuz half their songs seem pointless or odd if you haven't studied in depth... and they're in the secular industry...

Turn up the music

And it's not what you did

on another side note...
I am what you call eclectic... I listen to everything... except hard core death metal (yes, that includes my bro...)

so I also like bands like need to breathe, barlow girl, krystal meyers, jeremy camp, b reith, manafest, audio adrenalin (just naming non worship type bands) grits, MOC, mumsdollar, Jump5, guest, superchick, demon hunter, pillar, stryper, white cross, cross movement... and the list could go on for miles!

Swichfoot as some songs that might be a little on the heavy side. I'm in no way saying that there bad or anything just to be careful that we aren't just focusing on the music.

yes, I agree with you there... i used to get so ticked at my brother listening to trash, and I'd be like "... you're seriously listening to that song?" and he was like "I listen to the drum and bass" and I was like "But the words still get into your brain..." so now he only listens to christian stuff...

to southern bell, i wasn't saying they're bad... my host sister is like their biggest fan... but they aren't on a christian record label, that was my point...
like if you didn't know what the song "company car" was about, you'd be like "What are they on??" (btw, thats like my favorite song of theirs, along with sooner or later, and only hope and dare you to move and awakening)

but yes. i think it's very important to know what you're listening to. and what is ok for me, might not be ok for someone else... like idk, it's got to do with the "dont cause another brother or sister in Christ to stumble" thingy.
like if someone was addicted to hardcore, i'll just say "evil" music... and christian death metal pulls them back into that "zone" even if it has a good message, I wouldn't play it around them... did that make sense?

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been

And it's not what you did
