I have heard that most girls like guys to write poetry for them because it is thoughtful and sweet. I have also heard that guys who write poetry come off as too emotional or too soft or less masculine to some girls. Is there any truth to that?

i would have used to say that yes, it would be really dorky and lame if a guy was writing poetry, but i have changed my mind about that is because my sister is dating this guy who is about as masculine as they come really buff, tough, the whole nine, but he writes her poetry and it is the sweetest thing that i have ever seen. I don't think that it ruins his macho side. I think it depends on the girl, but i am betting you that if any girl received poetry from a guy she would not be thinking that they were really soft.. she would probably be thinking that it was one of the sweetest things ever. I am not saying that all girls feel this way, but i am just saying that i know quite a few that feel this way. hope that helps.. :)

Thanks! That is really helpful. I actually write songs a lot, and I naturally write songs about the girls I like. I just wanted to see because I occasionally write poetry. It's not really flowery or anything, but I like to write what's on my mind, and if a girl is on my mind, I write about her, you know?

No, I don't believe that a guy who can write poetry is soft! I think it's a very special talent. There is a difference between sincere and plain corny poetry, though! I'm not a guy (obviously...) but I DO write poetry, and I certainly would appreciate someone taking the time to write a poem for me whether that person is a guy or a girl. Don't let it stop you writing, though! You will find people who will most likely think you're soft because you can write poems, but there'll be people who think it's really sweet! My two cents......

Haha I used to live in texas, believe it or not. And yeah I remember our whole "cool to wear pink" thing. I don't really wear pink much anymore though because that's not a very popular style right now in my town. Anyway, I like to think of myself as a pretty tough guy, at least physically. I lift weights at least every other day and am kinda muscular. I race bikes (the kind that you pedal) on a cycling team. But yeah is that considered a lot by you girls? Like athletics and stuff?

athletics, for me, i really don't care about. i think it'd probably depend on the girl. since i have like .0001% athleticness in me, you could have the same, and i wouldn't care a thing about it. but for other girls who absolutely love sports, i'm sure guys who're very athletic are more attractive than book worms, maybe.

but God matches whomever He pleases! :]

Yeah, being athletic is ok in my book.....
It shows a guy doesn't just sit around all day watching TV - he cares about keeping fit. But guys that really over do it.......different story!
Can I spin the question and ask the guys if muscles are attractive on us girls?? Just curious!

Well I like to see muscles on a girl sometimes, but it has less to do with her physique than the fact that she gets out and does stuff. You know, a girl sits on the couch all day watching Heroes and Smallville just doesn't appeal quite as much as a really active girl. Overly buff women are just gross though...

It definitely depends on the girl. Personally it doesn't matter to me. I'd more likely be interested in a guy who's into books but if he's athletic then great. What stands out to me is personality. Oh and if they write poetry than I think that's awesome. You get great insight and it lets you know how thoughtful he is. Poetry can tell you a lot about a person and what's on their mind. Maybe many times guys who write poems are seen as emotional because of the way they carry themselves.

athletics to me is a big thing - not a really big thing, but it's cool to know guy who do satuff besides like sit around. and the poetry thing - if a guy wrote me poetry, i'd like love him forever!! just kidding no but really i think writing poetry to a girl a guy likes is really sweet (not sissy at all) and she should def. appreciate it

yeah. overall just nothing too puppies & rainbows like. David was a writer of many songs in the bible, & he was a "god fearing man". who also was a hero who deafeted all odds by killing goliath. that is a guy that girls like. someone who "faces his giants" is god fearing and still is creative and thoughtful

Guys who write songs shows me that they are ok with sharing their emotions, it doesnt necisarily mean they are really soft. My dad is an emotional person, like we'll watch a movie and dad and I will be crying and my brother laughs at us. lol
but yeah, Athletic guys are cool too!! I like a guy who I can play sports with and who wont treat me like a girl who cant do anything in case she breaks a nail. I luv sports and i absolutely hate it when a guy says "oh she's a girl and she cant run/skip/jump as fast as me." FYI i can kick a boy's butt, but I just dont act like it because mostly guys freakout when I whip them at sport.
oh yeah... I think overly muscley*sp guys or girls is gross. Im talking pro wrestler here... it's not normal!!! ew!
but yeah, fitness is a big thing. I usually dont respect a guy as much if I can beat him easily at sports. I mean, if i win by like a little, it at least shows me that I have to work to beat him. but yeah, the guy def has to be stronger etc than me, but musnt think Im a pushover.

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

If it's not just corny and all "I'll love you forever, I'd die w/o you" type of thing (that's just awkward), it's cool. About athletics, I guess it depends!! I've never really played sports much officially, but I love to hike, UFrisbee, volleyball, pick up games of soccer etc. so I'd want the guy to be able to keep up with me!!

I think it's a sweet gesture for a guy to write poetry or short stories or write music or make a piece of art to give their girlfriend or even just make something from the heart or get a very personal gift for them because it shows the girl that their guy is thoughful and sweet and cares for the girl. My sister's almost boyfriend (long story, but dad said for them to wait since they've only known each other for two months) didn't make her a gift, but for christmas, he got her flowers (of course but it's still so sweet, especially when our parents never got us flowers), a brad stein dvd (she loves brad stein) and a skillet cd (which is her favorite band). It was very thoughtful and personal which i think is good. so if you don't think you can write poetry better then "roses are red, violets are blue..." and you aren't artistic at all, your musically challenged, and you couldn't come up with a story for her if your life depended on it, then get her something that is personal or make her something nice that you are able to do.

also, you could even do an activity together to spend some quality time together. try doing a group activity so that you can include your families as well. Have everyone over to play apples to apples, spoons, uno, phase 10, taboo, catch phrase, make cookies, watch a movie, etc.
