Yeah well the rapture should be here soon. The bible says that uts ginna get siiooo hard for christians because of what we believe in.

"For god so loved the world that he gave his one and only son. That whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." Bible.
"For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of god". Bible.
"Use your head to show your heart what you truly want." Aaron Ward.
Do not just look on one side of the tree that you see for good apples but also look on the other for you may find the best where you aren't looking." Aaron Ward.
"Don't try to gather all apples off a tree to compare them. For that will take forever. Rather just look and see so that you find the perfect one rather than going through many to be dissapointed." Aaron Ward.

Haha...yeah, Clare! I do believe we are pretty much in the end times and as we get further and further in, more and more evil is going to seem like the 'normal'. The key for Christians is to FLEE like it says in Ephesians. We MUST stay pure in mind and body and in order to do that we need to not watch the evil of the world. My family actually decided to have no T.V. at all (we just watch movies) about 6 years ago and trust me....I LOVE IT! Yeah, I miss out on some conversations and there are some good shows...but overall I think it's better in the long run. I mean, I can always watch something on YouTube if I'm desperate. But yeah, terrible stuff like sexual imorality on TV is definitely not good. They do it for profit and they think people want to watch it (which if you're of the world...you prolly would). It's definitely sad and we as Christians should get a holy anger when watching or hearing that stuff, but the only thing we can do is pray and fill ourselves with positive inputs (worship music-i love!, christian films, etc.).

i have lived my whole life without a tv, as crazy as that sounds, i dont regret it. im glad my parents made decided this long before i came into the picture, or else, at the time, i would have something to say about it. i watch movies occasionally, but my parents dont really want us to spend time on the computer so...i basically read. all the time. (and i enjoy it:)

After reading the very first post on this thread, the first thing that came to mind was: It's the media. Gosh it's gone down the drain. Even Disney Channel- which I think is really sad. It's true that TV and movies nowadays make it seem that there's nothing to having casual sex, kissing around.. among other things. It's the saddest thing. In my personal opinion, the media has done such a good job in influencing people, that I'm scared to even bring kids into this world. Yeah, sorry guys, but that's just what's going through my mind at some points in time. :P I think it's horrible how some people treat each other on TV shows, and some even show kids disrespecting their parents- and it's completely normal! -_- This is exactly why I admire the 'old way of things', back when kids were taught to respect their peers, parents, and everyone else, and when it was immodest for ladies to even show their ankles in public.
Sorry.. that's just me ranting a bit :P Don't get me wrong, I enjoy living in the 21st century, it's just that I think today's morals are a bit twisted and turned around that's all. I used to like watching TV a lot, but then in high school, I think, I got busier, and reading took more precedence over TV- which I'm glad. I hardly watch TV nowadays, and if I do, it's mostly movies I rent or have bought. But hey! Anyone like watching old movies? Like with Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, or Audrey Hepburn? :D Maybe I'm just super old? Haha I like watching some older movies, which in my opinion, are better than some movies being made nowadays. That may be just me though. :)

haha I like old movies. has anyone seen "Once Upon A Time In The West?" it doesn't have tonnes of dialogue, but it's SO EPIC! the first movie Henry Fonda was a badguy in :D hehe

I'm also obsessed with back to the future and footloose :P oh and Fiddler On The Roof :D

I agree Nicole :D I have seen a couple things on disney channel now that I'm kinda like "um... it's not exactly bad, but... will kids try to get revenge on kids by copying the characters" etc...

haha I'm reading a book series and the first one is called "The Puritians" and I was thinking "wow, it would be so cool to live in the new world and make a new country from its beginnings" but then again, there were Indian attacks, accidental deaths, illnesses etc, and you had to hunt your own food.... for someone who can't hurt an animal, it wouldn't work...

but yes, I think alot of the older way of life was better. I think we're all so absorbed in ourselves and technology now that we're desensitized.

and... if technology failed (like all of it) we'd all be in a pretty bad place as we rely on it so much!

Quite simply, sex sells. It's nothing new. Every generation back to the beginning of time has had its 'sexual subculture'. The 1920s, the 1850s, the 1600s, and the 200s BC are just some the historical periods that stick out to me for that. Courtesy of a Crime and Vice class I took for my criminology degree, mind you, not any 'independent research'! :P My point: sex and sexuality has been a recurring theme throughout the ages. The 'olden days' weren't much removed from today, to be honest. For me, it's not that the media is overly sexualized (I've honestly seen worse.), I just don't see a point in some of the depictions. The sex scene is in the film or TV show just because 'sex sells' not because it's a device in the story. For someone who appreciates the minor detail of a point to his films or programs, that can be a tiny bit frustrating.

Oh, Nicole, ever seen Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn's films? I never get tired of seeing the two perform together! 'Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?' and 'Woman of the Year' are two good ones!

yes Lucky, I agree... I don't see the point to the sexual stuff unless it's detremental to the story... (not meaning graphic scenes of course, those can just stay out of the movie) but like if it's a story of a girl who'd been "abused" and has now come thorugh it (or whatever) then the fact that she was "abused" makes sense to the story, but that doesn't mean they need to show it... lol

kinda a random point...
I just think people have lost their sense of "some stuff should only be between a husband and wife" thing, and it's broadcast to everyone... at least in older times, you didn't speak publicly about it (unless you were one of those who did, as we all know, not everyone has moral standards...) but you know what I mean :P

idk I think people are just impatient and want to satisfy themselves here and now and can't be stuffed waiting... and I know sex stuff is made to "try to satisfy" it... but idk, I'm sure it stuffs people up... just like drugs and alcohol when abused or taken in the wrong way etc etc

I thought of 'The Scarlet Letter' when reading your post, Jo. The 'A' embroidered on Hester Prynne's chest was as much a public broadcast of her sexual actions as anything else and was standard practice in the Puritan age as well. People have been very upfront at times with sexuality through history, whether they're condemning deviant actions or flaunting them. I can think of the actions of several kings in the Middle Ages as example of the latter.

I think it's a question of meaning really, when people pursue sex, drugs and booze. They don't see any point to their existence, so they try and forget about it through the haze of excess. Enough of any or all of the three, and it won't matter to them. The feeling will be all that's left. It's sad really.

yeah I hadn't thought about the A thing, you're right...

I haven't read/seen the scarlet letter, but... I've seen Easy A, and so I sorta get the story... slightly...

and yeah the kings I know about... well a few... stuff we studied in school... but yeah, in the puritan age there was alot that went down that wasn't exactly good... though of course I also only have a brief knowledge of that... ie the persecution etc... but yeah Even in the Bible, the woman caught in adultery who was almost stoned and Jesus said "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" and no one did... but yeah...

I agree with you on the thing that it's a question of self worth etc :D sadly, we (as humans) have done some things either on purpose, or not realising we're doing them, that has so diminished other people's self worth that they think it's what they deserve or what have you... (you know, like bullying them or... speaking words of destruction over their lives) and so they're almost surrounded by a cloud of low self esteem...

I'm aware that sex sells, which is why I think it's sad that the media no longer portrays this as something that should be shared explicitly between husband and wife. On a side note Lucky Albatross- I think a criminology degree is awesome! It sounds very intriguing. :)
Back on topic: I've read the 'Scarlet Letter', and I think it's actually a pretty good read. I'm aware that every time period has had its sexual subculture, it's just that somehow I feel like more accepted nowadays or something... and divorce rates are pretty high nowadays.

As far as old movies (or the 'Classics'), Lucky Albatross: I think I'd like to look up those movies :) I haven't seen a Katherine Hepburn movie yet, but I want to. I will most DEFINITELY look up the two you suggested. :)

I haven't watched much classics, but they do beat some stuff that's on now. We never had tv and mom would get old movies, her favorite has always been Gone With The Wind...longest movie ever :p I love movies with horses but not westerns. As pathetic as it sounds I watch Gilmore Girls....over and over! It never gets old and I've been watching them for 2 years or more :D

Easy Like A is the easier approach to learning about The Scarlette Letter.

Right on Jo, some stuff id just beween husband and wife, and I hate it when people joke about stuff OR POST IT ON FACEBOOK! Someone said something on Grant's page and I was like excuse. Me????that's Not appropriate!

Haha Easy A, is that what you're talking about Clare? If that's it, then I thought that was a pretty good movie actually. :)
And don't worry about Gilmore Girls :) My sister happens to love that show also, and I've seen a few; most of the time I hear her watching it. :D
Ahem. Okay I'll get back on topic: As far as 'appropriate levels' go.... I'm sorry to say our culture has become rather lax..

You all have a great convo going already, and I'm new to this and all... but I think the answer is really simple. It the world! They have no one as Master over their lives, so they are going to do whatever they want. To them, sex in any context, on any screen, at any time, is just fine! You can infuse as much Christian influence into the media as you want, but the world will still choose the world's shows. The real answer is to give them God! Until they know Him, nothing will change... it will only get worse. The sad thing is that only makes life more difficult for guys & girls who don't want to have those thoughts and images constantly in front of them.
