Hey, um I'm a little confused about what's distracting to a guy on a girl's T-shirt or sweatshirt. Are all words/graphics displayed across a T-shirt drawing too much attention to her chest or is it just the ones that require you to really decipher what's on her shirt? For example, HOLLISTER or "Washington DC", or even shirts you might get from colleges displayed across a shirt, is that attracting too much attention? Sorry guys, I guess i'm not too sure how to word this, but i am trying to not attract the wrong kind of attention with what i wear on my clothing. Any words of advice?

Seeing as I'm a guy i can offer some assistance here. Honestly I never really noticed the words on girls tshirts until the question was raised. Then I was all trying not to look at the tshirts that were like that as much. it does kinda make me feel awkward to stare at a girls tshirt to try and figure out what is says. So I just try to figure it out out of the corner of my eye. Haha All in all I don't think it's too distracting. Hope that made sense.

I notice. I usually have to turn away or else I feel awkward. Personally, I don't think it's 'wrong' or anything, you just have to be careful.

my parents never let my sister and i buy t-shirts and sweatpants with graphics across the chest or backside. now, like if the shirt is just a random design and not like, "don't chya wish your girlfriend was hott like me?" *barf* then i don't mind. and i won't buy sweats that have like "CHEER" on the backside. i can TELL people i CHEER, they don't need to SEE it THERE. sweatshirts with "washington DC" etc. on them, are fine to me. but again, if they have something dumb on them, uh no.

Yeah - IMO, if it's hard to figure out or a provocative comment, or just a heap of words, find something else. Like, one or two words, or a reasonable sized picture, should be ok. But shirts that have like, a whole sentence printed on them in big letters are probably not ok.
And I hate those pants that have words on the back! I once saw a young girl (perhaps 10-11) with a pair of quite short pants on with handprints on the back..... that is just WRONG!

haha I don't like it when guys wear shirts with lots of words on them, either. A few words are fine, but when it's a whole paragraph or really hard to figure out, then I'm staring at their chests trying to figure out what it says... awkward... =]

yeah really! haha. I totally agree on those sweat pants and t-shirts that have like small sentences on them or like 'cheer' on the back side of sweat pants. I never really could figure out why people wore them, but that's just me. I try not to buy clothing with words on them, but it wasn't until recently that i figured out it could be a distraction to guys. (Sorry about that guys) But this all HELPS a lot. Thanks. BTW, any advice on the tightness of jeans?

Tight jeans = not a good idea. I don't mind jeans, but tight-fitting ones are distracting.

so like the skinny jeans? I just recently read up on this and it gave me something to think about. But thanks so much for the tip. I am now reevaluating my whole wardrobe.

Yeah - skinnys are out in my book. They're tight, and they follow shape. Jeans are naturally more figure hugging than anything else (except lycra...) so you have to be careful. Take notice of how tight they are. If they're quite snug, I would be skeptical as to how modest they actually are. Look at them from all angles, if you can. Jump up and down, do a few starjumps. Are they still tight? If so, I'd chuck 'em! I am about to go on a jean-hunt soon. My old ones have shrunk! ;)
Good luck with your re-evaluation! Hope you can find a nice pair!

Actually i used to think skinny jeans would be really bad, but there is a huge difference between skinny jeans and skinny TIGHT jeans - same way there is with jeans and TIGHT jeans - just be careful, but dont rule out skinny jeans - try em on and see

yeah i owned two pairs of skinny jeans. problem was, i misjudged my size and ordered them a little small over the internet. so i wore them for two months and finally my mom was like "you really have to get some new jeans, they're too tight now." i'm getting new straight legs which i think will be much more modest and attractive on me, because i'm more curvy on my lower half. i'll probably try skinny jeans again, but only if i try them on in a store and first make sure they're loose enough to be modest. :]

yea def try jeans on - i hate buying stuff over the internet cuz u never know! My boyfriend was like, "I don't think I could ever buy you a shirt because you would have to try it on and see if it broke any of your modesty rules, and I bet I would buy something that somehow broke them!" and I laughed (He said that in a really nice way just in case u thought that sounded mean - it really didn't) and smiled - what a great compliment! I was glad he noticed I have specific rules for my clothes :)

i never thought of it that way. thanks mylifehiswill. I don't actually own any pair of straight or skinny jeans, they never really looked good on me (i have weird legs). But what you said does give me more to think about, and that's good. While i know i'll never own a pair of skinny jeans, i was thinking about straights. I just have to be careful.

I don't care about graphics or words on shirts.
But the advertisements on the butt? NO! I hate those. We see all kinds of awful things here...I do.
I see little girls with awful words on their jeans. It's sickening and just wrong.
As for words and stuff on shirts, I wouldn't say they are wrong. I wear those because I love them. I find ones with funny sayings on them.
Now, to make things funny, I'm gonna tell of the weirdest thing I ever saw:

There was a noticeably large woman on the street, and the backside of her sweatpants said:
SKINNY BABE
And I thought it was the most hilarious sight in my life. I turned red, laughing as hard as I was.
I've seen people here...
Like a girl I saw on the street, dressed in ...MAYBE it was a skirt??...I couldn't be sure...It was so tiny. Almost like jean undies. Anyway, those, big super tall black strap boots and a cut off shirt that said:
BIMBO across the front.
I knew THAT was for certain.
I have loads of funny things I see every day. It's so great to laugh at.But it's also stupid.
And most of the time, the people don't even know WHAT THEIR WORDS OR PHRASES MEAN!
I've seen ones that don't even make SENSE! They are HILARIOUS!

"I have one purple"

"This my life! I like live."

"Superstare!"

"Butterflee."

"My name baby. You come say bye to me!"

"Make dreams fall!"

"Just sit!"

"Make sure to eat!"

"Ow!"

OH! Yeah...God Bless! =D

Ha ha! I can just imagine the BIMBO one! That would be SOOOOO funny! And larger women in short, short pants and skirts is just WRONG. Honestly.... showing off nice, lean legs is bad enough, but....... ew.

Yeah i have to totally agree. I have NO clue WHY people wear things like that, it's just weird, IMO at least.

Sorry to bring back a 'dead' topic - but I have a story to share about the whole words on shirts question.
I have one shirt with words on it. They're in French, and kinda faded (on purpose). There's not a tonne of words, but they're spread out over the shirt in different sizes of the same font. One day, I was wearing it, and my friend's dad saw it and promptly started trying to translate it. So, after about a minute of him staring at it, I was getting uncomfortable. I mean - well..... could you say AWKWARD? Some of the words are across the chest, so I was getting really creeped out!
He even poked me trying to figure out one word.
Suffice to say I won't be wearing that shirt out again!
So, girls, be careful what you're wearing. I don't think there was anything behind this guy's fascination with French, but it made me SO uncomfortable.

I've heard guys mention that word across the chest are okay as long as the shirt isn't too tight. But yeah...it's different for different guys.
