Cayla: to respond to your question, I wouldn't do it. I mean, it's polite of the other person to stick to your principles, but if they don't share them, how can you meaningfully move on in a relationship to something more? Say you get married – how are you going to raise your children if you disagree on fundamental parts of life?

It is trifles that make the sum of life.

Yeah exactly! I agree Locke :D

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

I really agree with that too. Sometimes I wonder just how far those "fundamentals" go. My bf loves God, sex is for marriage, the man is the leader, the wife is to be a keeper in the home, but some things we don't. He saw nothing wrong with kissing before engagement and I wanted to wait. He didn't pressure me, but seeing the look in his eye wore on me, and I gave in. (I don't regret it either) I guess my question is when is it something that I should be seriously concerned about and when it is something to try working through. Example: we were watching a movie where a man had to kill another man and he asked what I'd do if I had to kill someone and I said I never would he said even in self defense? and I said no. because I'm a christian and know where I'm going if I was killed and the Bible says its wrong to kill. He was really quiet. Idk if we agree on that!

I'm going to temporarily derail the thread and say that, clare, the Bible says it's wrong to murder - not wrong to kill, if I remember correctly. God did command the Israelites to completely destroy the other nations around them, to point out one example.

Back on topic, the odds of you ever having to be in a position where you have to kill someone are slim, so while it'd still be a good idea to take a look at your relationship and see where you two conflict or agree.

It is trifles that make the sum of life.

Clare I do wanna shout out to you again. I agree that if my bf is only keeping these rules for me, I wonder how things are gunna work out. Trust me, its hard, most of the conflict we face is due to "my rules." And because I make the rules, he says I control the relationship, which I dont like. I want him to be the man....idk its confusing....

I don't want to just "live" I want to experience life.

EXACTLY mlhw! I feel like I have all the scruples and rules he just goes with the flow. He says I'm worrying about the small things too much but whatever he won't do anything I don't like. He doesn't think I'm controlling the relationship, that's the guys role to lead out but he does think the girl should sort or control the emotional part. So some times I do tell him to cool it. What do you want to shout to me again? I want to hear it:)
