I've been wondering how short can skirts and shorts be on a girl? I'm just wondering how short can a short or skirt go without causing a guy to have impure thoughts or struggle. (The shortest short I have is like 3 or 4 inches above the knee) I really like the shorts, and I want to wear them to school, but if it really does tempt a guy, I'll put them back So the question is (I guess it'd be better coming from a guys point of view but girls are okay to) How short can my shorts be? |

I know how you feel. I think there's another topic on here somewhere... but I like wearing shortshorts, I've restricted myself to wearing them at the beach only. I didnt think anything of wearing them at first, but then the guy I liked saw my (he's a really godly guy...) and he cringed... so yeah... I felt really bad! Im not even sure how short is too short. I would just say that if you have doubts about an item of clothing when you put it on, then its safe to say it might not be the best choice... Hope that helps. |

I think the other topic was on wearing that at home... Honestly, I am pretty unoffendable in that regard- I mean, sure there's a point where I think they're too short, but that's, like, once the legs are under 5 inches long... unless you're really really short. So I'd have to say there's a range of what people find ok... but again, unless you're really short, 3-4 inches above the knee shouldn't be a problem, from my perspective at least. But yeah, if you have doubts, maybe you should ask your parents... And I don't know why, but the "cause a guy to stumble" phrase annoys me... yes, there is a point where what you wear messes with our head, and when that goes over the amount of self-control we have, and overwhelms our compartmentalization abilities (you did read about that, right?), then you have kinda "caused" us to stumble... but I think some of the time it's our own flippin' fault. I gotta go, otherwise I'd edit that thought a bit, but that's the best I can do right now. |

Whenever I have a question like this, I go to therebelution.com/modestysurvey. They have great guidelines. |

Alice- Thanks that site really helped alot! wjr- Yeah, your right that it's mainly the guys fault, but I think girls contribute alot to it. I used to dress so immodestly, that my friends (girls and guys) told me I needed to make some adjustments. So, I'm feeling so guilty (and embarassed after reading FYWO) that I'm trying to be modest as possible.
With that said... I read something on the site Alice recommened, and most guys said that jeans are more immodest then some skirts. And I was completely blown away by that, especially since I wear skinny jeans like all the time, yet my dad doesn't let me wear skirts. What's your say on that everybody? |

Madison- three cheers for your friends! I suppose that might explain it... Good decision, although I think that can be carried too far (i.e. some Mennonites, etc.) Umm... there was something about pants in general, but I don't remember any question on jeans... and by "some skirts" are you implying a kind of skirt, or do you mean just some skirts? Because there are definitely skirts that are more modest than jeans... I'd say most knee length or longer skirts (I'm thinking the looser ones... think poodle skirt) are more "modest" than jeans, because the skirts just kinda break from your figure, which the jeans don't do... but then, I've never found tight jeans to be a problem for me... so... yeah. (I mean, it bugs me when one of my gal friends has somewhat tight jeans and I ask what time it is, and it takes her 15 seconds to get her phone out of her pocket... but that's an off topic annoyance) |

Well, I usually wear shorts that are about 1 in. above the knee and skirts that cover my knees. One thing that has helped me is, act like Jesus is standing right next to you. Would you be ok with wearing what you're wearing? Or would you be ashamed of dressing like that in front of Jesus? It's helped me! |

Hmmm yeah. I think that's a cool rule DaughterofEve. It's kinda similar to WWJD. If Jesus was you, would He wear that?? but yeah, its an awesome concept!! |

| i am so weird about my shorts now. i never wear the short cheer shorts and it kinda bugs me to see other girls wearing them (no offense to anyone who wears cheer shorts). i wear them to the knee pretty much and looking back at pictures i'm like ah! i wore that? even though most wouldn't consider them 'immodest' |

I personally don't wear less than knee-length. Also, one other post I read mentioned the attitude behind it can make it modest or immodest. And yes, I agree that tight jeans are about the same as short shorts. Ok, signing off!! |

that is a great question! i try not to wear something that could make other men have impure thoughts. it sometimes annoys me so much when i see other women wear such immodest clothes! i remember one particular time i was at a place with a guy friend and there was this women dressed so immodestly! i just thought about how that possibly effected my friend. i could have almost gone up to that lady and asked her to dress differently next time!! because of the effect it had on other men. but of course i wood not do that!

I usually try to wear shorts/skirts/dresses/w/e that come to like a little bit above my knees. One thing that helps me when I'm shopping for shorts or w/e is try sitting down cross legeed in the shorts. if the shorts look like bikini bottoms when you sit, they are def. too short just my take on this whole thing (_; |
