On dictionary terms, Lust is the strong desire for something, or to have a sexual desire for someone.
Desire is the strong want of something or want of something to happen.
To covet something is to yearn to possess or have.
With that said, to want something, I think, is normal. I also think it's normal to desire something, just not to the point where it starts to take over normal thought.Then that could be dangerous obsession. To want a girlfriend or boyfriend is normal. It's just when someones starts think about someone else in sexual terms then it's lust, and then it's dangerous.
As far as coveting something, I even think it's okay to covet.  Hold your horses there. The word covet nowadays seems to have such a negative connotation to it- maybe why I hardly use the word anyway. Anyways, my point is, while it's not good to covet your best friend's husband or something, or anything that's not yours, I think it's fine to covet extra time to spend with your family or friends, or to covet a closer relationship with God, or a patient heart.. you get the drift.
I think it's natural to want things, like a fine house, a nice car, and nice clothing, but we should also remember what we have and be thankful for them too. Like Clare said, there can sometimes be a fine line between attraction, desire, passion and lust. Though for my case in point, when we desire or covet something, just make sure it falls somewhere under God's approval.  |

| I think of lust as a consuming force, when the want, the need for something (a man/woman, money, power, etc.) overwhelms any sense of restraint. Their desires become a part of who they are and eventually destroy them. Think about the many politicians whose careers ended because of infidelity, the businessmen who went to jail for cheating people out their life savings or even the dictators who died bloody deaths as a result of their quest for power. There's a reason lust is one of the Seven Deadly Sins (And envy for that matter!). |

| yeah lust is HUGE! alot of the sins people committ are out of lust... ie murder etc etc etc. |
